The first gig for the second iteration of Taste with Richard McCracken and John Wilson replacing Kiteringham and Damery, although there might have been a warm-up gig in the days previous, somewhere in Birmingham or thereabouts.
I have three Taste albums (S/T, On The Boards, and Live Taste) and two of Rory's solo LPs (S/T and Deuce), but I am too young to have seen them live. As with Alvin Lee, there is no doubt Gallagher was a monster white bluesman, but it is 'On The Boards' and his solo work where he started to find his own voice that I really love. That said, I have watched many videos, including their set at The Isle of Wight, and they were clearly a great live band that could easily hit breakneck speed and cruise at full-tilt boogie altitude at the drop of a hat.
I saw them quite by accident at the Royal Victoria & Bull in Dartford. They did Blister on the Moon, so it must have been 69 ish? It must have been very badly publicised, as there were only 12 people in there including the band and staff! They were still great though.
August 12? Are you sure you don't mean August 26?
I think you're right, I just checked an old Marquee handbill. I'll change the date, thank you Milo!
